We pass a UU prayer book clockwise around the table each evening, so over the course of a week all 7 of us have an opportunity to select a prayer. Yes, the most common is the shortest. "May we have grateful hearts, and may we be mindful of the needs of others." I love the increased awareness that I have about being mindful of our local bounty, and even knowing some of the families whose work has provided us with what we eat. Thanks for your reminder Malcolm.

Beautiful thoughts and actions.

When my wife and I started dating six years ago, we quickly developed the practice of holding hands in reflective silence before meals. Now that we're married, we do the same, and my kids join in when they are with us. (I can tell that he's bored, hungry or both when the younger one squeezes my hand almost as soon as we touch.)
